I received confirmation from Larry Willard, one of the three entrepreneurs behind Faith Family Books and Gifts, that the grand opening celebration will take place on Saturday May 2.
This is the bookstore that — despite the current economic downturn — is going to target the void in the GTA market left by the bankruptcy of the R. G. Mitchell distribution and retail operation in September 2008. The business people behind this new store believe that a fresh new model of retailing, which includes a mix of selected books from Christian and mainstream publishers, gift items, a performance/meeting space and a coffee shop, has the potential to succeed and possibly grow into a chain.
The new store’s opening had previously been announced for April 4, but like any huge undertaking there has been too much to get done to meet the original ambitious schedule. The store plans a “soft launch” for early April, meaning the store will be open for customers while all the final touches are readied.
This new retail operation is located next to the Winners store at the Town Centre Plaza, 45 Milner Avenue, Scarborough, one light north of the 401 off McCowan Road, near the Scarborough Town Centre Mall.
The store plans to get its Web site operational soon. Stay tuned here for further details.
Meanwhile, you can read the earlier posts which give information about the store’s ambitious plans:

Hi, Anna. I will pass on your comment to Larry Willard, one of the three business partners in Faith Family Books, so that he knows he would have a customer in Brampton, should their initial venture be successful in Scarborough and they think of expanding to other locations. Just to clarify, the new Christian bookstore is completely independent from R G Mitchell and is not “taking over” the Mitchell business, so they have nothing to do with the disposal of the various Mitchell properties.

I am another Brampton customer who is most interested in a Christian bookstore in our area.

Thanks for your note Gerry. I made some inquiries on behalf of Brampton inquirers, and found out that Karian Christian Supplies has moved and expanded to serve the market previously served by R. G. Mitchell. You can find them at http://www.karianchristiansupply.com/ or phone 905-457-7431.
